Warmer
One secret word. Guess and see how close you landed — get warmer until someone nails it.
About Warmer
Warmer is a word guessing game about meaning. There is one secret word, and every word you guess gets a rank that shows how close it is in meaning to the secret. Rank #1 is the secret word itself. The lower the number, the warmer you are.
Unlike Wordle, the letters don't matter at all. "Sea" and "ocean" share no letters, but they sit right next to each other in meaning, so a guess of "sea" would rank very close to "ocean". The game is about following the trail of meaning from your first wild guess to the exact word.
You can play the daily puzzle on your own, or open a room and play with friends on your phones, where everyone guesses at the same time and the first person to find the word wins. Warmer is available in English and Greek.
How to play
- Type any single word and send it as your guess.
- The word gets a rank and a colour. The rank is its position out of every word in the game's word list, sorted by closeness in meaning to the secret word. Green means warm, red means cold.
- Use your best guesses to steer. If "boat" ranks well, try words around boats, water, travel and the coast, and see which direction gets warmer.
- Each word can only be guessed once per game. In a group game that includes words other players have already tried, so everyone's guesses help everyone.
- The first player to guess the exact secret word (rank #1) wins the game.
Example: the secret word is "ocean"
- "car" lands far down the list in red. It has little to do with the secret.
- "river" comes back much warmer, so the secret probably has something to do with water.
- "sea" is very close, in the green.
- "ocean" is rank #1. Found it!
Tips
- Start broad. Words like "animal", "place", "feeling" or "food" tell you quickly which area of meaning the secret word lives in.
- Think in categories, not spellings. Once a guess is warm, try its neighbours: things it is part of, things that belong to it, and words used in the same sentences.
- Watch for big jumps in rank. Going from the thousands to the hundreds means you've found the right topic. From there, narrow it down slowly.
- Stuck? Two hints are available each game: one shows the word ranked #100, and the other shows the word one place above your best guess. Hints are free to use after a short ad, and they're shown next to your name on the daily leaderboard.
FAQ
Is Warmer like Contexto or Semantle?
Yes. It's the same idea of ranking guesses by closeness in meaning. Warmer adds group play, where friends race on the same secret word from their phones, plus a Greek version and a daily leaderboard.
How does the daily challenge work?
Every day there's one new secret word per language, the same for every player. You get one attempt per day, and your result goes on that day's leaderboard, ranked by how many guesses it took to find the word.
How is closeness worked out?
Each word is turned into a list of numbers (a word vector) that captures how it's used in real language. Words used in similar ways end up close together, and the rank is simply each word's distance from the secret word, sorted from nearest to furthest.
Is there a time limit?
In a group game the host chooses how long each round lasts, or turns the timer off so a round only ends once everyone has guessed.
